New Electronic Music from the UK: Raffertie

“Raffertie” is one of the new buzz names out of London. The name belongs to a fresh 24-year-old electronic musician, Benjamin Stefanski. He’s a musician who takes the industry seriously, armed with a degree in classical and contemporary music composition from Birmingham Conservatoire and a handful of acclaimed releases under his belt. When asked if it’s difficult to make a living as an aspiring international musician in London, Raffertie comments that living in a costly city is a positive challenge that forces people to work harder to meet their needs. Raffertie is a music teacher alongside his composing; he says that teaching music helps him improve his own work.

THE BOMBER JACKET caught up with Raffertie after his opening set for labelmate Bonobo at Club Gretchen in Berlin, Germany. He talked about his upcoming debut album, the difference between his live set and his studio tracks, and his brand-new label called Super Recordings.

Meeting Raffertie was a joy–we interviewed him and spoke a lot about the industry today. Hopefully we will see him in the U.S. sometime soon. […]
