American noise-pop/speed-folk musician Emperor X has announced three Israeli performances in September, marking the artist’s first foray into the Middle East. The tour is celebrating the release of his latest effort, The Orlando Sentinel.

Berlin-based project leader Chad Matheny has been recording and performing music under the Emperor X moniker since 1998. His albums grabbed the attention of NPR, Pitchfork, Vice/Noisey, The Onion AV Club, and Salon.com, which listed Emperor X as one of the most overlooked artists of 2011.

Matheny performs regularly around the world in art galleries, bars, book stores, university symposia, college radio stations, and unusual venues like hot air balloons, abandoned pedestrian tunnels, and laser tag arenas. Sometimes Emperor X consists of a revolving line-up of friends on drone guitars and marimbas; sometimes it’s a solo performance of Matheny’s aggressive guitar and shout-singing into shoulder-mounted battery amp and a dub effects delay pedal.

Emperor X has performed alongside indie luminaries like Thurston Moore, Sun Kil Moon, Sebadoh, Nada Surf, The Hold Steady, Jeffrey Lewis, and John Vanderslice, who dubbed Matheny “a serious genius” on his photo blog after they toured together.

Israeli fans of cult American television series “Veronica Mars” will already be familiar with Emperor X, as Warner Brothers featured one of his songs on the soundtrack of the series’ long-awaited silver screen debut in March, 2014 [CLICK IMAGE BELOW TO LISTEN TO HIS FEATURED SONG].

Emperor X will arrive in Israel fresh on the heels of the release of his latest electronic-tinged album, The Orlando Sentinel, which Consequence of Sound described as “another thrilling entry into what is becoming a radical, challenging, and sometimes baffling discography.” THE BOMBER JACKET pressed the album on vinyl (as we’ve been so proudly boasting), and the Israeli dates will be the first Emperor X shows in which attendees may purchase a vinyl copy of the album.
